In my answer to Richard I wrote IMHO, ATF was never designed to be burned in the combustion chamber although a tiny amount could possibily help with the slide sticking problems. I'd recommend Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) if you choose to do this, but I don't suggest any oil type additives I believe they can lower the octane rating and cause combustion chamber carboning. Plus I've just solved a rich running complaint (black smoke and higher than usual fuel use) on a Honda Generator. I found what I believe to be a small amount (residual in portable fuel containers) of diesel fuel in the gas, cleaned the carb, gas tank and plug. Soot stopped in seconds and it starts and runs normally now.
Back to the sticky CV plunger concern, mine was battered looking when I had it out in 98 but I've never experienced it sticking or causing a power loss. Be interesting to see how many plungers are battered looking and if it does cause the wet weather running concerns others have expressed over the years on this forum. I ran 2 days in temps from 35-45 deg from 3500 - 9650 ft in altitude with not problems with the bike. I like to froze and was wet clear through in spots. Max
